Craving more and more sleep

As a non-professional athlete with professional goals, balancing family life with work and training remains challenging. I’ve recently switched to running early in the morning instead of late in the evening. The quality of sleep I now get is much higher (see the reasons why here).

Now for the next challenge… enough sleep overall. My training load is increasing steadily (both volume and intensity, thanks coach!). And I’m getting up at 6 sometimes 5 AM to get the work done. And with the training load increasing it could be that I need to get up even earlier…

More training load means more sleep. To be able to do this, I need to get to bed early. That’s not something I’m used to. I like to stay up and watch a movie or read. My kids are growing up and staying up later in the evening. That means because my kids are staying up later and I need to get to bed earlier, my “finally the house is quite” time is getting shorter and shorter. But, my running time is increasing, and I’m able to handle the increase in training load.

Balancing different important things is always about choices and priorities and I’m happy where I am now…
